The Subject of Dating- by Rachel Elya
Dating is amusing
To watch a girl and guy
Watching them interact with each other
Will make the time fly by!
But it’s before the dating begins,
that I find most amusing.
When a girl likes a guy
and the guy likes the girl,
but neither will say it
nor will they admit it,
Will make your hair curl!
They interact frequently
and often do they hang out,
but never once do they speak their mind,
never once will they say
What everyone else already knows
Yet still they scream “parlay!”
The community of friends around them
Has already made bets
Of who will make the first move
And make it with no regrets.
“Well I think it won’t happen”
Says pessimist number one
Then pessimist two speaks up and spews
“I’ll be gone before it’s begun!”
Then speaks up the hopeful
Those with the best interest at heart
“As long as they are both happy,
It’s okay if they are apart.”
And so from the sidelines
I continue to watch.
With a twinkle in my eye
And that eye on the clock.
There’s a smirk on my face
And my cheeks hurt from grinning,
But what hurts the most
is I find my head spinning.
There are no conclusions
To a subject left unspoken
Until someone decides to speak
And the silence is broken.
